Returning to Normal

The 2021 sailing season is starting off better than last year. With a better understanding of COVID 19 and widely available vaccinations restrictions are starting to be lifted in Ohio. We held our first in person general meeting in over a year on Monday, 3 May at our outdoor pavilion. We did provide a Zoom link so those not comfortable or out of town could join us. Both Adult Learn to Sail and Junior Learn to Sail are taking place again this year. We are even starting to plan some outdoor social events. One of my favorites, Fire Fridays, will return soon. It looks like official racing will start in June. There always seems to be a need for crew. If you are interested in getting out on the water, stop by the marina Wednesday evenings around 5:00. There is a good chance you can get on a boat.

We have a new program being launched this year. The Beach Boat Club (BBC) will be an opportunity for club members to to sail our fleet of FJ dinghies. If you are not ready to buy or haven't found a keelboat, just completed the Adult Learn to Sail class and want to keep sailing, or just want to zoom around in a dinghy to sharpen your sailing skills the BBC is a great opportunity. Keep an eye out for the latest news.

With activities starting back up again, we need volunteers to make that happen. Check out our calendar for upcoming events and look to Sign Up Genius for volunteer opportunities. Volunteering is a great way to step back into the swing of things after 2020. Our activities are all outside so social distancing is pretty easy to maintain.

We also need club members to update their contact information. With our pivot to virtual meetings last year we relied heavily on electronic communication. Providing a current email address that you check regularly is crucial as we re transition to more paperless administrative processes.

So far, things are looking up for 2021. I look forward to seeing you on the water.
