End of the Season

Though it has been unseasonably warm this October, it is just over a week away when the facility closes for the winter. Last night was the annual Hot Dog fun race where Sledgehammer tosses hot dogs to the boats as they sail down the lake. The wind was out of the south in the low teens and fairly steady. Many chutes were flying. The temperature could not have been better. As the evening wore on there was a beautiful sunset to the west and a full moon rising to the east. There were almost 30 boats on the water. As it go darker you could see a swarm of red and green nav lights on the north end of the lake. What a way to end the season.

In the spring things were a bit uncertain with COVID, but we managed to hold two of our usual three Red Cup Race Series, return to meeting in person in the pavilion, bring back Fire Fridays, hold the Old Fox Regatta, and have a few social gatherings along the way. It felt great to return to normal. We have met several new members this year. Some are new sailors, some more experienced. We have had a few new boats on the docks and a boat or two trade hands. Overall, it was a very active summer at ACSA.

Unfortunately, it is time to start preparing for winter. This weekend is haul out day (please see the calendar for details) and in early November we will be closing the facility down (watch the calendar for details). All boats need to be off the beach and out of the water by 31 Oct. If you need any help please let your fellow members know. We have many helpful and experienced members.

Thank you for a great sailing season. Don't forget, we still meet in the off season. I look forward to seeing you over the winter.
