Hi – does anyone know of where I can obtain Hobie Cat sailing lessons?

Looking for any opportunity to charter a day sail on Alum Creek. I am ASA 101, 103 certified and have taken the Alum creek Adult Learn to Sail classes. Looking to get out on the water with my partner sometime in July. You may contact me directly if you have a boat docked at Alum Creek and are interested in renting it out for a weekend day this summer!

Could anyone recommend someone who can check and repair/replace standing rigging? Im hopeful I can find someone who can come to the club and take a look rather than bring the boat to them. Any guidance would be appreciated.

To our tireless ACSA volunteers:

A massive thank you for the incredible hours you put in during yesterday’s Splash Day. Spending over nine hours to prep, raise masts, help rig, launch, and potentially tow is a huge undertaking, and the club couldn’t have done it without your grit and expertise.

While things moved so fast we nearly lost count, we successfully launched at least 12 boats—likely closer to 14! That is a testament to the efficiency and coordination of this crew.

• Mast & Launch Mastery: From the mast system to the launch ramp, you handled the heavy rigging and technical transitions with precision.

• The Long Haul: Nine hours of physical labor is no joke. Your energy stayed high from the first boat to the fourteenth.

Because of your hard work, a huge portion of our fleet is now rigged, launched, and ready for the season. You are the reason our community stays afloat—literally!

I have a Precision 23 1989 that for health reasons I can no longer use. It is in need of work such as replacing the current door to the cabin, tire inflation on the trailer, and cleaned. I’m willing to sell it as a fixer upper, but I am looking for someone/a business that could work on this boat to have it ready for a sale. Any help would be appreciated. The blue DS on the South edge of Acres Aweigh popped up, unless that positioning was recently intentional.

Also, looks like a couple of crafts at Mast-Up lot went over in the breeze we recently had. Nothing else seemed out of sorts.

A BIG THANK YOU to James and Carin Swerlien for hosting this dock pick event at their beautiful home and to the gracious volunteers who ran this awesome program. Kelly Austin, Bernie , Evan Graves, Carin Swerlien, Kayleigh Graves. In 70 minutes of exchanges with people wanting to switch or first time choose a dock this team managed to work through the entire list, including new boat owners on the waitlist, and we still have two docks available for sublease. Many more showed up to share yummy lunch treats and observe the process. CONGRATS on another dock pick fast will run.

Hello ACSA Sailors!

It’s time to get the fleet back on the water! Join us for our annual Club-Assisted Splash Day on Saturday, April 25, with a rain date scheduled for Sunday, April 26.

As a volunteer-run social club, our success depends on teamwork. If you are splashing your boat, the expectation is that you will also lend a hand to your fellow sailors. This community effort is what makes our club thrive!

Event Details & Logistics

• Arrival: Please bring your boat to the State Marina Parking Lot between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM. This allows us to stage all boats effectively for the day.
• Mast Raising System (MRS): Operations begin at 9:00 AM sharp.
• Efficiency Tip: To keep the MRS line moving smoothly, please do not attach your boom or sails while at the station. These tasks should be completed only once you have reached your dock.
• Towing Assistance: If you need help towing your boat or trailer to the State Marina, please indicate this during your registration.

Registration & Fees

• Members: This event is a core benefit of your club membership (no fee).
• Non-Members: A $50 coordination fee will be assessed at checkout.
• Walk-ins: If you show up on the day without pre-registering, a $50 work-in fee will be charged (applies to both members and non-members, subject to availability).

Safety First

By signing up, you attest that you have reviewed and completed the Pre-Splash Checklist attached to the registration page. For the safety of our volunteers and the efficiency of the operation, boats that have not met these requirements may be unable to splash. Please ensure all registration questions are answered fully at checkout.

We Need Your Help! Volunteers Wanted

Richard Lee has graciously stepped up as our Event Coordinator, but we need several more hands to make the day a success. We are looking for volunteers for the following roles:

• Mast Raising System (MRS) Assistants: Help fellow members step their masts safely and efficiently.
• Ramp Assistants: Help coordinate the lineup at the ramp to keep the splash sequence moving.
• RIB Driver: Provide on-water towing assistance for boats heading to their slips.

Whether you are splashing a boat or not, we would love to have your help!

I was checking my boat today at Acres Away and noticed a boat a few spots down had flipped up. Cockpit drains are cleaned out and I still could not pull the trailer down. The last pic is not clear but it is the trailer frame stuck in the ground. Probably more than a one person job.

The two inside boat ramp lanes at Hollenback Boat Ramp have concrete ramps that go to the bottom of the lake. The two outside lanes have concrete ramps that only go to a water depth of about 10 feet. If you strap your trailer into the water to load fixed keel boats you may want to use the two inside boat lanes.

As our sailing season slowly ends this fall you might think about winter maintenance items as follows:

1. Sailboat stays – forestay, back stay and side shrouds are recommended to be inspected and replaced every 10+ years. Some boat insurance policies will cover part of this expense if stays show individual wire breaking.

2. Inboard motor metal exhaust water riser is recommended to be inspected and replaced every 10+ years

3. Outboard motor water pump impeller is recommended to be replaced every 5+ years

The state pump device at Hollenback marina will close Wednesday Oct 15th.

Does anyone have a recommendation for someone to take a look at a sailboat we’re considering buying? As relative newbies, we could use a more trained eye to spot any issues (or a good find!) Thank you!

I’m interested in joining as crew for sailing at Alum Creek Sailing Association. I’m new to sailing and mainly looking to experience it and hopefully learn a bit along the way. A sailor I met, Tom, mentioned that there are races on Wednesdays and weekends, and I’d love the chance to join in and help out if possible.

If you raced in Spin or J24 last night, 8-20-2025, your race course was D-C-A-Finish. Unfortunately it was difficult to hear the radio transmission of the course before the race. As a result, some of us may have missed the C mark part. I know we did. The course was posted correctly on the committee boat, which is what counts.

So if you didn’t round C mark last night, please notify me.

My husband who is not well can no longer sail, and his Precision 23 (1989) has been sitting at Acres Aweigh for several years. I am looking to pay someone who knows sailboats well (and maybe even can make repairs/improvements) to meet with me at the boat so I know what needs to be done to put the boat in a more saleable condition.
