One of the fundamental philosophies of ACSA is to further the sport of sailing, as evidenced
by the presentation of the ODNR "Outstanding
Contributions and Service in Boating Education 2007"
award to Tom Wehrung, the chairman of our Learn-To-Sail program .
The club supports sailing programs through various outlets for both children
and adults. We offer experiences through our weekly races, weekend regattas and
formal classes, where students can learn the ins and outs of safe, enjoyable sailing
under the guidance of experienced boaters.

the summer. Courses consist of at least 2.5 hours of instruction each week over
a six week period, and involve classroom and on-the-water experience on sailboats
from 22 ft to 26ft in length. All classes are conducted at the Alum Creek Sailing Facility

- Wednesday evening racing.
During the sailing season (April through October) the club
hold races every Wednesday evening. Those interested in learning to sail should
meet at the marina between 17:30 and 17:45 on race days, and they will be placed
on a boat. Get the experience of sailing without the need to own one. Learn in the
company of experienced veterans, and once you are comfortable - get your own
boat and help to further spread the joy :)

- Youth Summer Sailing Programs.

In 2006 ACSA started providing learn to sail programs for young adults in middle
and high school - with GREAT results! Our program continued in 2007 with assistance from a State of Ohio grant.
This year, we have 2 sessions scheduled. These are very basic Discover Sailing classes, designed
to provide participants confidence with their boat handling skills and help them to have fun sailing. We use Hunter 14 sailboats with
an instructor on each boat for new students and Optimist sailboats for returning students who demonstrate sufficient proficiency. All classes are conducted at the Alum Creek Sailing Facility
off Lewis Center Rd.
Minimum age to participate: 12 yrs old
Cost per session: $50 for non ACSA members, $40 for ACSA members
2008 Youth Class Schedule -
- Session One: 6:30-9pm on Fridays in June (13,20,27)
- Session Two: 6:30-9pm on Fridays in July (11,18,25)
Note: We do require
a parent or guardian to stay at the facility
while their child is in the class. If you want to go out
and watch on the water with other parents that is fine too! We always need help with preparation,
and participants usually bring hot dogs, buns and stuff for
smores for after the lesson if they choose.
